Baofeng Basics: Learning to Use Your Baofeng UV-5R

Introducing the Baofeng Basics Online Course

For the last 3 years, we’ve been helping thousands of Americans study for their ham radio license exam. However, after becoming licensed ham radio operators, many of our students struggled to take the next step and finally get on the air. Because of this demand, we decided to take our system that has been so effective in prepping for the ham radio exam, and actually show how to use your ham radio.

It's designed so you can learn to use your Baofeng quickly.

We’re going to start from the very beginning, and teach you all the fundamentals of operating your Baofeng UV-5R. To make this course simple and easy-to-use, we focus specifically on the Baofeng UV-5R. Our videos are short and easy to understand.

Materials You Need for The Course:

To truly get the most out of this class, you need two things:

1) Your FCC Technician License (learn more here)

2) A Baofeng UV-5R or any supported radios.

Disclaimer: Ham Radio Prep and Critical Communications Media LLC are in no way associated with Baofeng, Baofeng Tech or any similar radio manufacturers or distributors. We are an independent organization that makes online courses and educational materials for those who want to learn how to use Baofeng radios and we enjoy these radios ourselves.

Supported Radios:

We have gone through an exhaustive list of possible similar radios and evaluated whether or not we think they will work with this course. We look at certain features to see whether they might be very similar to the popular UV-5R model.

We do know that there are radios out there with varying firmware versions (some even requested by private label sellers) as well as cosmetic changes, but on the whole they most likely will work with our course. For instance, menu numbers used for navigating programming might be slightly off, but you still should be able to scroll through those menu items to find the congruent and correct menu number for the function you need to carry out the same task.
